Sound is invisible, yet its impact is undeniable. The bass in a favourite song, the laughter of a friend. It shifts how we feel, often without us consciously registering it.
Our appreciation for the understated is longstanding, and sound has always held a particular fascination for us. We have explored ways to convey meaning beyond what can be heard, from immersive experiences with experimental artists to collaborations in sound and speaker design. For AW26, this ongoing interest evolved into ‘CYMATICS,’ a collection informed by the visual language of sound itself.
What is cymatics?
Cymatics is the process through which vibrations take on visible form. Sound can be understood through measurable frequencies, and when these frequencies interact with a receptive medium, they produce distinct patterns.
Consider sand scattered across a flat surface, responding to vibrations passing through it. Patterns begin to emerge, giving physical form to something otherwise intangible. Curves, spikes, and ripples, each shaped by the frequency that produces them. These fleeting formations became a point of reference for the collection, informing its silhouettes, layers, and textures.
'CYMATICS' approaches sound through different dimensions: ripples spreading across water, the shockwave of a jet breaking the sound barrier, the resonance of a tuning fork. Each offers a different perspective on how sound can be translated into material form, transforming the intangible into something tangible.
